Mathematical modeling of variants of thoracolumbar junction transpedicular fixation after resection of Th12 vertebra under compressive load

Background. The area of the thoracolumbar junction is characterized by a significant load that dictates increased requirements to stabilization, which should not only provide reliable and rigid fixation, but also ensure maximum uniform distribution on all elements both metal structure bone tissue exclude failure fixation in long run. Purpose study investigate influence transpedicular screw length presence crosslinks during surgical resection one vertebra from under axial compressive load. Materials methods. We analyzed mathematical finite-element model part spine (Th9-L5), where Th12 was removed replaced an interbody implant with additional system. Four variants were modeled using short screws, as well without two crosslinks. stress-strain state models studied vertical distributed 350 N. Results. When screws absence crosslinks, stresses Th10, Th11, L1, L2 vertebrae are 7.2, 5.3, 4.2, 14.3 MPa, respectively, when — 6.5, 4.6, 3.8 13.5 MPa. shows 7.1, 4.4, 3.9 14.0 while application 6.3, 4.5, 3.5 13.2 respectively. Conclusions. With load, use allows reduce level stress models, provides greater rigidity posterior support structure, leads increase fixing tissue.
